About Kersten Contemporary Art Gallery

A Kraków contemporary art gallery from 1995 showing painting, sculpture and prints, including by Academy of Fine Arts graduates.

The Kersten Contemporary Art Gallery has operated in Kraków since 1995 and deals in painting, sculpture and prints. It shows works by Polish and foreign artists and pays particular attention to graduates of Kraków's Academy of Fine Arts, with which it cooperates in promoting young artists.

Where the gallery was located

For years the gallery occupied the former cellars of the Grand Hotel at Sławkowska 5, not far from the Main Market Square. Since 2019 the gallery's website has given an address at św. Jana 12, in the Krauz tenement house. A branch has also operated at św. Jana 9 since 2006. It is worth confirming the addresses before a visit, because sources from different years give different locations.

Exhibitions

Several times a year the gallery organises solo exhibitions of the artists it works with. It is a commercial gallery: alongside shows it also sells works. Nearby are also the Czartoryski Museum and the Cloth Hall (Sukiennice), so a visit is easy to combine with a walk around the Old Town.

Practical information

  • Address: Kraków, św. Jana Street, Old Town (number according to the gallery's website: 12).
