A fort of the Kraków Fortress on Prochowódka hill, built in 1884-1885 and rebuilt in 1913.
Fort 39 “Olszanica” is a fort of the Kraków Fortress on Prochowódka hill, in the Olszanica estate. According to the sources it is in good condition, because renovations were carried out in it over the years.
The fort was built in 1884-1885 as a semi-permanent one, and in 1913 it was rebuilt as a permanent close-defence fort. No fighting took place here during the First World War. It was entered in the heritage register on 2 March 1983.
Until 1984 it housed a warehouse of “Romet” bicycles, then the fort was handed to the Kraków-Krowodrza Troop of the Polish Scouting Association for camping purposes. The barracks, used as an equipment store, were destroyed by a fire after arson, and the site was managed by the Scout Horse-Riding Tourism Club. In the 1990s, after a general renovation, a small hotel for 26 people and a bar called “Fort 39” were set up here. We have no confirmation whether these services operate today, so check before a visit. Nearby lies Kraków Zoo.
