Remnant of the set from the film “Schindler's List” at the bottom of the Liban quarry, imitating a road of matzevot.
The Road of Matzevot is a remnant of the set of the 1993 film “Schindler's List”. It lies at the bottom of the Liban quarry in Kraków's Podgórze.
These are not real gravestones. According to the description of the site, it is solely an element of the set, and not matzevot from the cemeteries on which the camp in Płaszów was established during the occupation. For the needs of the film other elements were also built in the quarry, and traces of them remain: metal structures, posts and remains of barbed wire.
The authentic Płaszów camp was located several hundred metres from the quarry. For this reason the Liban quarry is sometimes mistaken for the site of the camp. It is a former limestone quarry, described in the entry for Liban Quarry.
The site is left unattended and nobody maintains it. Oskar Schindler and the history of his factory are presented in the city at Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory.
