Wooden Villa from 1896 in Kochanów

Lubomirskich 125, Kochanów
About Wooden Villa from 1896 in Kochanów

A historic Swiss-style villa from 1896, a former children's holiday colony and school, in Zabierzów municipality.

The villa in Kochanów is a wooden complex in the Swiss style, built in 1896 by the Holiday Colonies Society in Kraków. It stands in Zabierzów municipality, on Lubomirskich street, and is entered in the heritage register.

From children's colony to school

The initiator and benefactor was the social activist Ignacy Żółtowski. The building first served as a summer colony for children. During both world wars an orphanage operated here, later it also served as a hunting lodge, and from 1955 to 2003 it housed a primary school. The villa was remodelled in 1930.

Today

The main building does not meet current building standards, so only the annexe is in use, where a village community centre operates. The owner is Zabierzów municipality. Nearby stands All Saints' Church in Rudawa.

Practical information

  • Address: Lubomirskich 125, Kochanów.
  • The villa is viewed from the outside; the sources give no rules for entering the annexe, so it is worth asking at the Zabierzów municipal office.
