A pedunculate oak in Kraków, a natural monument established in 1936, with a trunk circumference of 565 cm.
Józef is a pedunculate oak (Quercus robur) growing in Kraków's Łagiewniki-Borek Fałęcki district. It has been protected as a natural monument, that is a single object which must not be felled or damaged.
According to the Central Register of Forms of Nature Conservation the tree is 23 metres tall, with a trunk circumference of 565 centimetres and a diameter at breast height of 180 centimetres. Its status as a natural monument was granted by a regulation of the Kraków voivode of 5 February 1936, so the protection has lasted for almost 90 years. The name Józef comes from the designation of the place; the register lists it as a single tree.
The oak stands less than a kilometre and a half from the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy, so it is easy to combine the two points in one trip around the southern districts of Kraków.
