A wooden tserkva from the 18th century, now an Orthodox branch of the parish in Bartne.
The Tserkva of the Protection of the Mother of God in Wołowiec is a wooden tserkva (wooden Eastern-rite church) from the 18th century, built as a Greek Catholic church and Orthodox since the 1960s. It is a branch of the parish of Sts Cosmas and Damian in Bartne and belongs to the Wooden Architecture Route.
In 1927 most of the residents converted to Orthodoxy, and the tserkva remained in the hands of the Greek Catholic minority. After Operation Vistula it was adapted as a sheepfold and cowshed. It was handed over to the Orthodox Lemkos who returned to the village after 1958. In 1964 the damaged chancel was demolished, and four years later a new one was built. Since 2009 it has been the sole property of the Orthodox Church. It was entered in the heritage register in 1987.
The building has a three-part layout and is oriented to the east, with a tower above the porch, a false lantern and a broken tent roof. Small onion domes crown the nave and the chancel. Inside, a 19th-century polychrome has survived, and the iconostasis dates from the 18th century.
